MIAMI -- As the city of Miami's police department undergoes a changing of the guard, we at Local 10 wish outgoing Chief John Timoney the best of luck.There is no doubt Timoney raised the bar for a department that, until his arrival seven years ago, was mired in scandal and controversy.His tough tactics and demeanor ruffled feathers in the rank-and-file and often put him at odds with the union. But even his critics applaud the innovative policing strategies he implemented that lowered the crime rate measurably and held officers accountable.Chief Timoney leaves the department with grace and dignity and a city made better by his work here.May the department continue the momentum under new Chief Miguel Exposito.That's our take on things. Let us know what you think.
