HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Students throughout the state of Florida began taking the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Tests on Tuesday.
The tests will grade students skills in reading, writing, math and science and will last 10 days.
Students from third through 11th grade have been preparing for the FCAT tests for the last seven months.
The high stakes exam determines if third graders get to move to the fourth grade, and if high school students can graduate.
It also determines how much money schools receive. The higher a school scores, the more funding it gets.
There’s much on the line and parents are concerned. But school officials said the best advice is for parents to be supportive.
“I’m very proud of the school. And it’s all because of them, the kids. That’s our future," parent Tracy Padilla told Local 10.
