Professor Wrestling: 'Destination X' Results
TNA's Team Angle, Team Joe Clash
What Should Happen: Fast-paced fun. LAX and MCMG are bringing back the true tag-team style of wrestling. Rock 'n Rave stink, but it won't be as apparent in a 3-way match. (And Christy Hemme is smokin', so they're OK by me.) I'd put Hernandez and Homicide over and give them another run at the belts. (Until Vince McMahon signs the big man and makes him a star. Trust me, it's coming.)
What Will Happen: Heels A.J. Styles and Tomko are the champions, so the popular Machineguns will win here and lock up the title shot.
What Did Happen: LAX tears down the house with a terrific performance and gets the win over Rock 'n Rave to become #1 contenders. Fish Market Street Fight: Shark Boy and Curry Man vs. Team 3D
What Should Happen: Shark Boy's Stone Cold ripoff and Curry Man's rave-y ring entrance is the best comedy act in wrestling today. The story here is 3D's weekly failure to make TNA's 275-pound weight limit. (Big laughs with charismatically-challenged ref Earl Hebner overseeing their weigh-ins.) I'd give the win to Sharky and Curry tonight. Why? Because they crack me up, OK?
What Will Happen: Brother Ray is still too heavy, so 3D stooge Johnny Devine takes his place with Brother D-Von, but big boy interferes to give the team a cheap win.
What Did Happen: Devine gets involved with the dreaded powder-toss, which backfires and costs 3D the match. Total comedy match, but very entertaining, with raw fish flying all over the ringside area. Joel from "Survivor: Micronesia" was sitting in the crowd and got shoved by Ray. Women's Championship Match: Awesome Kong (c) vs. Gail Kim vs. ODB
What Should Happen: Obviously Kong should keep her title. There's nothing wrong with a monster heel running wild for a few months. Kim and ODB do a fine job in the ring, which should make this match a decent contest. When was the last time that was ever said about a WWE women's match? It's been a long time.
What Will Happen: Kong will keep her belt.
What Did Happen: Kong pins ODB with her Awesome Bomb finishing move.Booker T. vs. Robert Roode
What Should Happen: Booker is still ticked that Roode hurt his wife, Sharmell -- so the feud continues. Kind of a ho-hum storyline, so TNA transformed this into a "strap match" at the last minute. Traci Brooks gives Payton Banks 10 lashes if Booker wins, and vice versa if Roode comes out on top. Both guys are in mid-card limbo so it really doesn't matter who wins.
What Will Happen: I'll take Booker to win.
What Did Happen: Roode waffles Booker with a pair of handcuffs and gets the pin. Brooks takes her 10 lashes from Banks -- and a couple from Roode -- but Sharmell returns and cleans house with a strap of her own.X-Division Championship Match: Jay Lethal (c) vs. Petey Williams
What Should Happen: Now that Lethal has his gimmick where he's "Black Machismo," the second coming of Macho Man Randy Savage, he really doesn't need this belt. Williams, currently stuck with a dopey bodybuilder schtick, is the far better wrestler. He should add the X belt to his resume. (Scott Steiner's "freak," Rhaka Khan, is in Petey's corner tonight -- if you care. But you shouldn't.)
What Will Happen: Williams wins in an upset.
What Did Happen: Lethal pins Williams to keep the title. They're teasing a turn by Lethal's friend, Sonjay Dutt, who's jealous of Machismo hooking up with ringside girl SoCal Val.Elevation X Match: Rhino vs. James Storm
What Should Happen: Both men fight on a big metal X elevated above the ring. It's like a match on scaffolding. Whoever falls off first, loses. The storyline in this one revolves around the drunken cowboy, Storm, antagonizing the recovering addict, Rhino. I have the feeling a beer bottle will come into play somewhere. Rhino, the so-called "War Machine," really needs a meeting.
What Will Happen: Storm is going to lose.
What Did Happen: Storm got kicked off the scaffold and crashed through a table on his way down to the ring. He loses.Challenge Match: Samoa Joe and Christian Cage and Kevin Nash vs. Tyson Tomko and A.J. Styles and Kurt Angle
What Should Happen: While I can certainly appreciate the starpower in this match, I'd rather spend money on a title defense. That being said, the smart money has either Nash or Tomko getting pinned -- two guys with nothing to lose. It probably should be Angle's team, so he can suffer a loss without losing his title.
What Will Happen: Joe's team will get the pin.
What Did Happen: Joe made Tomko tap out.Nailed three out of seven predictions, including the main event and the women's title. Not bad -- and the show was strong from top to bottom. Good effort by TNA.Don't forget to download Episode 68 of "Old School, New School" -- the Professor Wrestling podcast.
