Professor Wrestling: 'Backlash' Results
Orton, Undertaker, Kane Risk Gold
What Should Happen: Haven't I seen this one before? Maybe. But this match could steal the show if both performers are up to the task. Hardy is always solid, and MVP is getting better every week. In the end, it probably wouldn't hurt to give the belt to Hardy in order to re-invigorate this program.
What Will Happen: I'm picking Hardy to win.
What Did Happen: Matthew Hardy pins MVP cleanly. He's your new U.S. champ.
Podcast: 'Old School, New School' -- Episode 74 12-Diva Tag Team Match
What Should Happen: I'm not going to list all the names. The usual suspects will be there in this filler match. Of the 12, only two can wrestle: champion Mickey James and Beth Phoenix, who should both figure in the final pinfall.
What Will Happen: My crystal ball says the silicone-enhanced team led by Ms. Phoenix will win.
What Did Happen: Ms. Phoenix pinned Ashley in the end, earning her heel team the victory.
Challenge Match: Batista vs. Shawn Michaels
What Should Happen: Here, big Dave is ticked that Michaels retired Ric Flair in WM24, and wants revenge. I don't mind the concept, but let's be honest: Batista needs guys like Michaels to carry him. With that in mind, it's no big deal if Michaels loses in order for Batista to have a good match.
What Will Happen: Batista pins HBK.
What Did Happen: HBK hit Batista with a superkick out of nowhere to get the pin.
Challenge Match: The Great Khali vs. Big Show
What Should Happen: I'm guessing this won't be contested at a very fast pace. While Show is a bit slimmer, these are still two lumbering behemoths. Let's hope that it's short and let's hope that the always-engaging Mr. Show gets the pin.
What Will Happen: Big Show will dispatch Mr. Khali.
What Did Happen: Big Show took Khali down in about six minutes. About five minutes too long, if you ask me.
ECW Championship Match: Kane (c) vs. Chavo Guerrero
What Should Happen: Kane beat Chavo at WM24 in no time, an I have to tell you I felt a bit ripped off. Squash matches have to place in a pay-per-view, especially a title tilt. This one should go a bit longer, and Chavo is more interesting as champ -- but I'm guessing Kane will still get the pin.
What Will Happen: Kane retains.
What Did Happen: Kane retained, pinning Chavo.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Undertaker (c) vs. Edge
What Should Happen: There's no streak on the line for UT, but I think it would be poor planning to have him drop the title so soon after WM24. But Edge should get some satisfaction. Perhaps a serious post-loss beatdown?
What Will Happen: Undertaker will stay on top of the "Smackdown!" heap.
What Did Happen: No satisfaction for Edge, as he tapped out to UT's new choke-hold.
WWE Championship Match: Randy Orton (c) vs. Triple H vs. John Cena vs. JBL
What Should Happen: You can't take the title off Orton. That would be criminal. He's just getting started as a decent WWE champ. Since this is an elimination match, I'd have it go down to JBL and Orton. JBL has done a fine job on the mic leading up to this match, and deserves some top-tier success.
What Will Happen: Orton will find a way to win again.
What Did Happen: It came down to Orton and Hunter, with Triple H pinning Orton for the victory.
And that was that. For the record, I was five right and two wrong on my picks -- just about perfect. But, hey, that's just me. Still hungry for more 'rasslin info?
