MIAMI -- Spain's King Juan Carlos I and his wife, Queen Sofia, cut the ribbon in the official opening of the eighth annual South Beach Wine and Food Festival on Friday.
The two Spanish monarchs arrived at about 12:30 p.m. to cut the ribbon at the Spanish Wine Pavilion at Lummus Park at 10th Street and Ocean Drive.
King Juan Carlos said he is happy to be in South Florida and that he likes Miami.
Earlier in the day, the king and Gov. Charlie Crist met in Miami to discuss trade opportunities.
Both leaders noted the history and culture that Florida and Spain share. Each said Friday that they particularly hope to collaborate on renewable energy projects.
Crist said Florida is negotiating with the company that built the world's largest solar energy farm in Spain, to build a similar farm in central Florida.
The Florida-Spain Business Forum is part of a series of events with state, local and international officials honoring the 450th anniversary of the Spanish arrival in northwest Florida.
The king and queen visited Pensacola on Thursday.
The South Beach Wine and Food Festival is going on through Sunday. Tune in to Local 10 at 8 p.m. Friday to watch the Local 10 Special: South Beach Wine and Food Festival. For more information on the event,
