Depp Knocks U.S. For Flare-Up With France
Actor Likens Home Country To A 'Dumb Puppy'
According to Reuters News Service, the film star told the German magazine Stern in an article published Wednesday that "America is dumb" - comparing the country to a "dumb puppy" with "big teeth " that can "bite and hurt you, aggressive."
Depp, who has starred in such films as "Edward Scissorhands," "Blow" and this summer's blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," told the magazine that he's happier staying in France with his French-born wife, Vanessa Paradis and their two small children, according to Reuters.
In the article, Depp, 40, also took the Bush administration to task for the initiative in the House cafeteria on Capitol Hill, where french fries were re-dubbed "freedom fries." He told Stern that the action by "grown men and grown women in positions of power" made them reveal themselves as "idiots," Reuters reported.
Depp's "Pirates of the Caribbean" was one of the biggest hits of the summer movie season, and has earned $274 million to date.
He next stars as a CIA agent opposite Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the action film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico."Copyright 2003 by JustNews.com. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
