Celebrity Chatter: Weird Baby Name Game Continues

Julia Roberts Joins Other Celebrities Who Choose Kooky Kids' Names

POSTED: Monday, November 29, 2004

Julia Roberts now joins the list of celebrities who have jumped on the Hollywood bandwagon, which gives license to choosing odd baby names.

Celebrity Chatter Michelle SolomonNot that there's anything wrong with that, but Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter Moder can exchange notes on parental naming with the likes of Apple Martin (Gwyenth Paltrow and Chris Martin's baby girl), Caspar and Clementine Vaughn, (children of Claudia Schiffer and Matthew Vaughn), and the two Prince Michael Jacksons (the second Prince Michael's nickname is Blanket and you know who their dad is.). Their cousin's name is Jermajesty (he's the son of Jermaine Jackson.)

Then there are Fifi Trixiebelle, Peaches Honeyblossom, and Little Pixie, daughters of rocker Bob Geldof and Paula Yates. Model Christie Brinkley has a daughter, Saylor Lee, with husband Peter Cook.

Like many parents, children's names sometimes recall special occasions. Like Sean Penn and Robin Wright's son who is named Hopper, allegedly because Penn was working on a film at the time with Dennis Hopper. Hopper has a sister named, Dylan, by the way.

Passion of MindBut who knows why Bruce Willis and Demi Moore named their children Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle?

I must say that the man who started it all, in my opinion, was Frank Zappa who named his children Moon Unit, Diva, Dweezil and Ahmet Emuukha Rodan. And speaking of musicians, Cher and Sonny Bono broke the mold with daughter, Chastity's name and Cher's son with musician Greg Allman was also the unforgettable Elijah Blue.

Sports figures are also not exempt from the baby name game. Remember fighter George Foreman, who named his kids George Jr., George II, and George III?

I'm just grateful that my mother didn't decide to name me after her and her mother. What kind of name would Mabel be in the 21st century? Although it did become fashionable after sitcom parents Paul and Jamie Buchman named their daughter, Mabel, in "Mad About You."

It got me thinking. If I were to have a daughter or son, I'd love to name them Chatter.

Speaking of babies, the Material Girl Madonna has been dropping hints that she may want baby No. 3 to join sister, Lourdes, 8, and brother, Rocco, who is now three.

Even though Madonna is 46, she continues to be in tip-top shape.

A physician I spoke to said that there could be some risk factors for Madge because of her age, but because she's had two healthy children and maintains an active lifestyle, she should be OK.

It was People magazine that asked the diva about more kids.

"I'm going to have fun with my husband and see what happens," according to the publication.

Top Hairstyle Of All Time

Actor, Jennifer AnistonA poll of 2,000 women voted "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston's hair the best style ever, when she sported the signature cut of Rachel.

Second was Farrah Fawcett's bouncy "Charlie's Angel" cut in the 1970s and Princess Diana's short hairdo came in third.

Marilyn Monroe and cartoon character Marge Simpson were also favorites among the women surveyed.

Big Ticket Christmas Presents

George HarrisonHow about buying the Beatles fan on your list George Harrison's guitar used while recording "Revolver"? It will only set you back $500,000.

Christie's auction house will sell off show business memorabilia beginning Dec. 17 including Keith Richards' guitar used during the early 1960s on the "Ed Sullivan Show." Cost? $400,000.

For the film buff: Unseen "Apocalypse Now" footage includes seven reels of Super 8 film footage of the making of "Apocalypse Now," which was shot on location in the Philippines in the late 1970s.

For the Barbra Streisand fan on your list (like me), how about Streisand's application to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists from 1961 ($2,000 to $3,000)?

Then, look every bit the Hollywood diva with Ivory suede gloves worn by Audrey Hepburn, which cost between $3,000 and $5,000.

Also on the block: a Britney Spears' book report, a handwritten 1991 letter from the late Kurt Cobain to Courtney Love, and a high-school yearbook picture of James "Jimi" Hendrix.
