FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A set of newborn twins makes eight for a South Florida couple who just welcomed their third set.
Newborn twins Summer and Dylan rested inside a hospital room at the Broward General Medical Center's maternity wing on Thursday.
After giving birth, you might think their mother would be exhausted, too, but Kathleen Hinrichsen cannot wait to bring them home.
"I'm just very excited to get them home and get into our routine," Hinrichsen told Local 10's Jonathan Vigliotti.
When Summer and Dylan arrive home, it's not just their family who will see double. Hinrichsen's babies always come in twos -- she and her husband, Nick, are the parents of three sets of fraternal twins.
"I was shocked. I never heard of anyone having three sets of twins before. We never expected this," Nick Hindrichsen said.
On Thursday afternoon, the whole family came to the hospital to meet the newborns. The Hinrichsens said having two 7-year-old boys, two 2½-year-old boys and now the newborns can get a little hectic.
"As you can imagine, it's a handful to say the least," Kathleen Hinrichsen said.
The Hinrichsens said they used fertility drugs to help with each pregnancy. Still, they said the chances of giving birth to twins three times is very rare.
Both babies are healthy, though Dylan spent three days in the NICU for liquid in his lungs. Both will leave the hospital Thursday night.
As for plans to have more children, the Hinrichsens said now that they have a girl, they're done.
"One girl and five boys -- no more for us. We have all we ever wanted," Kathleen Hinrichsen said.
