Procedure Erases Deep Wrinkles

POSTED: Monday, October 9, 2006

Botox and Restalyn are popular for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, but plastic surgeons say that sometimes, deep lines and wrinkles may need a bit something more.

For years, Lauren Wenzel Oates used her hair to hide something she didn't want anyone to see.

"I've always worn bangs and I've kind of always had this groove in my face -- frown line, whatever -- for a long time really since my late 20s," Oates said.

A hairstyle change made Oates want to do something about that line, so she went to Delray Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Gregory Albert.

"I went there with the intention of a Botox injection and he told me about this new procedure and we went forward with that," Oates said.

The new procedure is something called Surgiwire.

Albert said that the new procedure can we used for deep lines and wrinkles, as well as, acne. He said that the procedure works better than Botox and Restalyn.

He said, "The needles go in out in out and then you gently release that line. We're basically ironing it from underneath and afterwards this is two days later the wrinkles gone and she can really expect that to last for a few years."

There are typically no side effects with the Surgiwire procedure, because nothing is left behind under the skin, and Albert said that recovery time is minimal if any. Most people go back to work the next day.

That's how long it took Oates, a surgical nurse, to return to the operating room. She said that the procedure made her feel ten years younger.

"I'm thrilled," she said. "It was a very deep groove."

The Surgiwire procedure costs between $900 and $1,500.
