Infrared Light Treats Acne, Wrinkles

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- There's a new weapon in the fight against wrinkles, sun spots and acne scars, and it's in the hands of West Palm Beach dermatologist Dr. Kenneth Beer.
"This is the first of a new generation in lasers that provide both skin rejuvenation and tightening," said Beer.
The handheld device emits pulses of laser light that reach deep into the skin, generating new collagen fibers.
"This will more likely than not be a long-lasting solution because the body is actually making its own collagen," said Dr. Beer.
Christine Boyd decided to see what the laser could do for her acne scars.
"I've suffered from severe adult acne and everything else I've tried hasn't done much for these deep scars," said Boyd.
After just one treatment with the laser, she noticed a difference.
"My skin is definitely smoother," said Boyd. "I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with more treatments."
It typically takes at least three treatments, at a cost of around $1,500, to get the full benefit.
The treatment is called "minimally invasive" because there is some noticeable impact to the skin.
During the treatment, patients typically feel a prickly sensation, and the skin stays red for a few hours after treatment.
Beyond that, recovery is quick and pain-free.
