BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Like many women, Jodi Jack has a love-hate relationship with her body.
"I hate that as you get older you have these little pouches and area's of fat that no matter what you do, they don't go away," Jack said.
Through friends, she heard about a new non-surgical solution to fighting fat. It's called 'Zerona.'
"This is the use of a low-level laser that affects the fat cells," Dr. Alan Bauman said. "With the application of this laser, the fat cells leak. Then your body reclaims it and over a two-week period you get a reduction in fat."
Patients lay on a table under the device for six 40-minute sessions over the two week period.
Red laser lights scan key areas of body fat, but the patient feels nothing.
"Zerona is a non-thermal laser, so there's no risk of burning or cutting. There's no damage to the skin whatsoever," Bauman said.
The FDA has cleared the device for safety but not efficacy.
Despite the lack of peer-reviewed, double-blind studies, Jack said the Zerona treatment worked for her.
"I lost a total of 8 inches all over," she said. "I'm so thrilled I want to do a little bit more."
The series of six treatments costs $3,600.
