MIAMI -- The ABC special "Extreme Makeover" is showing how plastic surgery can transform people and their lives.
It's something South Florida doctors do on a daily basis.
Joe Griggs and a woman, who prefers to be known just by her first name "Karen", both found help in achieving their extreme makeovers from Boca Raton plastic surgeon Dr. Dan Man.
"The extreme makeover is for them extreme but minimalistic" says Man. "They want to look better, but still feel like themselves."
At 72-years-old, Joe Griggs stays in top physical shape with regular workouts at the gym but he felt helpless to do anything about his face.
"Friends would say I had a young body but an old face" said Joe. "I decided I better do something about that."
Joe went through a full face-lift, eye surgery and a neck lift. Some of the tissue removed from his face was used to fill him the deep lines running along his nose to his mouth.
His facial transformation has Joe considering other changes. "I'm going to buy sportier clothes, because I feel younger now."
Along with a mid face lift, neck lift, eye surgery, and forehead lift... Karen had her earlobes shortened. "Dr. Man felt the length of my ear lobes gave me an old lady look, and he was right."
While Karen dresses the same, she is now wearing her hair differently... loose and curly. "I used to spend all this time styling it to detract from my face, now, letting it go naturally is more youthful looking... and it flatters my overall appearance.
Neither of these transformations was cheap.
Joe spent $15,000, Karen $17,000.
They also made sure that they carefully researched their surgeon before choosing him for their procedures. To learn more about how to pick a plastic surgeon,
