MIAMI, Fla. -- The head of the Jackson Health System has asked Miami-Dade County managers for an emergency loan.
Florida lawmakers had recently denied a request to give the financially troubled hospital more money.
In the letter sent on Thursday night to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez, President and CEO Dr. Eneida Roldan wrote " a formal request for an advance of $80 million in funds JHS is slated to receive from the county this fiscal year. This money will immediately shore up our cash position and permit us to receive $16 million in quarterly payments due from a state fund for hospitals that serve a disproportionate share of indigent patients. We will repay the money by the end of April."
Local 10 has learned they will likely receive the money, however the commission is not likely to support the hospital's plan to cut 4,500 jobs and close the Jackson North and South hospitals.
Jackson Health said they will continue to provide the same quality of care to the community.
