Hot Flash Pajamas May Produce Better Night's Sleep
Pajamas Claim To 'Wick Away' Moisture From Night Sweats
Susan's Special Needs, a store in Ferndale, Mich., has a sign outside that says it all: Moisture evaporates faster on this "wicking sleepwear" and pillowcases.Barbara Kinder went into menopause as part of her cancer treatment. Now, she suffers from intense night sweats."You'll be in a deep sleep, and all of a sudden, you're waking up because you're all wet and sweaty," Kinder said. "And, if you're wearing regular pajamas, they're generally drenched."The sweats made Kinder so uncomfortable that she used to take her pajamas off in the middle of the night.Kinder said she found relief with wicking pajamas."With these, I find I can leave them on all night, and not have wetness on my body all night long," she said.Susan's Special Needs caters to cancer patients, but the store is branching out to be a support center for all women going through menopause, the television station reported. One of the store's most popular gifts is a Night Sweat Survival Kit that includes pajamas."We receive e-mails all the time that say, 'Susan, great pajamas, they work,'" said Susan Thomas, owner of Susan's Special Needs. "We have women who've bought one pair and come back to buy four more."The cost of the pajamas is between $50 and $100, depending on the style. The manufacturer promises the pajamas keep their wicking properties, even after dozens of washes.
