Some Turning To Alternative Treatments To Cure What Ails Them

When conventional medicine isn't working, many people look to alternative treatments to find relief. And some are finding going back to nature is what works best for them.

Owning Dixon Nursery in Miami keeps Frederic Dixon, 39, close to nature. That connection, and his parents' declining health, sparked a passion for natural medicine.

"They were both getting sick and going to conventional doctors and dealing with conventional medicine just wasn't doing the job," said Dixon.

So Dixon began to search for alternative treatments, specifically for his mother's heart and clotting conditions.

He discovered something called nattokinase or nattoenzyme, which is fermented soybeans. It can also be taken in supplement form.

Dixon said it has the ability to prevent clots and also destroy clots that are already present.

"The main thing, it improved the circulation as soon as she started taking it," said Dixon. Plantation orthopaedic surgeon Alvin Stein uses alternative treatments to heal his patients.

He said nattokinase can bust up a clot if you catch it early enough. Stein said the question is how much other damage is there to create bleeding problems and how long do you keep taking the supplement.

Stein helped Dixon's mother relieve her symptoms by getting rid of toxins in her body, a process called chelation therapy.

"Thyroid gland is one of them poisoned by cadmium. Anxiety, depression, panic attacks is the number one symptom of mercury toxicity. Get rid of all the poisons, those diseases go away," said Stein.

Chelation therapy can be administered through injection or by taking supplements Dr. Stein said he has seen chelation therapy relieve symptoms in conditions like Lou Gehrig's disease, cancer, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, restless leg syndrome and more.

Dr. Stein believes conventional medicine failed most of his patients.

"They're paying for medicines that aren't making people well, that are covering symtpoms. If you treat symtpoms and you don't treat the cause of the symptoms, you won't get the symptoms going away," said Stein.

Dixon said getting back to natural medicine helped relieve his parents' symtpoms and eliminated their need for prescription drugs.

Dr. Stein said all of us are exposed to various forms of toxins every day . Our bodies are supposed to naturally fight those toxins.

But our genetic makeup makes some of us more vulnerable to those toxins and to diseases.
