Deputies Said Man Sold Water At Twice Its Value

TAMARAC, Fla. -- Broward deputies say they arrested for price gouging after they found him selling water for twice what it was worth.Deputies in Tamarac said at about 11 a.m. Thursday, they saw David Bercovicz, 23, selling cases of water out of a U-Haul trailer parked in a shopping center at 5781 N. University Drive.Deputies said Bercovicz was selling cases of 24 one-liter bottles for $10. Deputies visited a Publix supermarket and found that the same case of water was selling for $4.99 --half of what Bercovicz was charging.Bercovitz told deputies he bought the trailerload of water near Tampa and brought it back to Broward to sell to hurricane victims.Deputies discussed the situation with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and determined that Bercovicz violated the law.Bercovicz was booked at the Broward County Jail.His bond was set at $25.
