FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The owner of a private mailing center on Las Olas Boulevard was arrested Wednesday, accused of stealing money and other valuables from his customers' packages.
The U.S. Postal Service and Fort Lauderdale police said Robert Parker had been under investigation for nearly a year. They had received numerous complaints from customers of Mailbag who said their property had disappeared from packages that were inadvertently delivered there.
Investigators on Wednesday said they dropped off a decoy package which was addressed to a fictitious person and contained $402 in cash.
Investigators said when they moved in to make the arrest, they found the money was in Parker's possession and the package in the trash.
Parker, 52, is charged with grand theft.
