CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Former President Bill Clinton will be addressing the University of Miami's graduating seniors in a convocation speech Thursday, one day after his vice president was on campus to promote the school's 'Green U' program.
Al Gore brought his message of environmental awareness to the BankUnited Center on Wednesday. Hot off the success of his Oscar-winning documentary feature, "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore spoke about the dangers of global warming.
Gore screened the film and also autographed copies of his book that inspired the movie.
He was introduced by UM President and former Clinton cabinet member Donna Shalala.
Although Gore's message was a serious one, that didn't stop him from delving into the comedic side of his character, which had the crowd in stiches.
"I flew on Air Force 2 for eight years. Now, I have to take off my boots to get on an airplane," Gore said amid laughter. "I took them off this morning to get on an airplane."
'Green U' was launched in 2005 through the coordination of UM's Office of Environmental Health and Safety. The program is aimed at making UM a community leader in the acquisition of environmentally responsible products and the practice of ecologically sound maintenance and operations procedures.
