Airline Computer Glitch Causes Long Waits At FLL
Self Check-In Kiosks Malfunction For US Airways

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- US Airways passengers had a longer-than-normal wait at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Monday as the airline works to correct a computer malfunction that left its self check-in kiosk on the fritz.
Some travelers waited up to four hours to catch their flights to their respective destinations.
"We were here two hours early and now we're risking maybe not making it," said traveler Candi Rider.
The computer chaos started Sunday. US Airways and America West Airlines recently merged, and so did their computer software programs, causing a glitch at the self check-in kiosks.
"If they're coming to the airport, they need to come either four hours before -- that's the time we're asking them to come because (of) the computer problems," said a US Airways employee who was identified only as Maggie.
Despite the long waits, no flight delays have been reported.
"I feel sorry for the people that work for US Air(ways)," said traveler Jerry Hutchins. "That's just the way things go these days."
Airline officials said the computer glitch could take several more days to repair.
"It's an unforeseen problem since Sunday and hopefully we'll have it within a couple of days," said Maggie.
