I-NEWS ONLY: Miami Beach Macy's Gets Makeover
POSTED: Monday, March 26, 2007
MIAMI -- A South Beach department store that has been a landmark on the island since its art deco days is being brought into the new millennium.
Macy's Miami Beach will be closed for business for the next couple of months, undergoing a complete interior renovation.
Construction crews are already getting to work on the former Burdines space, located a block from Lincoln Road Mall.
The renovation will include the entire first and second floors of the department store, according to Macy's Florida.
The new interior design will feature Miami Beach's signature Art Deco architecture, inspired by the lifestyle, colors and influence of the city.
The updated store is supposed to reflect Macy's celebration of the South Beach lifestyle, with vivid colors and design, according to Macy's Florida chief executive officer.
"Macy's has been a part of the Miami Beach community for over 50 years and we are thrilled to announce the transformation of our store," said Julie Greiner, chief executive officer of Macy's Florida.
Greiner said the new store will have expanded merchandise, including new brands that have never been sold at the Miami Beach location before.
The goal is to create a "more enjoyable in-store shopping experience."
The grand re-opening of Macy's Miami Beach is expected to take place in August of this year.
