MIAMI -- ABC News anchor Peter Jennings came to South Florida Friday, to host a town meeting about the issues that unite and divide our community.

Political reporter Michael Putney got a chance to spend time with Jennings (pictured, left) Friday morning.
The two mainly talked about the state of the news business, how they do their work, and how it occasionally angers viewers and readers -- especially after September 11.
Just this week Jennings moderated similar town meetings in Atlanta and Detroit, and before that in several other cities.
This morning Putney asked him what the point is of these town meetings and what they accomplish.
"People want to know why we do certain things. People want to know how we do our business, and I think we don't want to tell them all the time, but it's nice to have an opportunity to tell them. Similarly people can get very upset with us, and it's sometimes based on the way they see us in their own political perception and sometimes because they don't understand what we do," Jennings said. "So this is an hour for us to commune and communicate, hopefully, with both our critics and our allies."
Jennings made it very clear that he wants tonight's town meeting to include provocative questions. Putney asked Jennings a few, including one about comments he made on 9/11 about the whereabouts of President Bush.
