Family Of Houston's Shooting Victim Files Lawsuit
Lawsuit Alleges Restaurant Had No Security, Inadequate Lighting

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- Family members of a South Florida chiropractor who was found shot in the parking lot of a Houston's Restaurant announced their intentions to file a lawsuit against the owner Tuesday.
Dr. Bradley Timpf was found shot in the parking lot of Houston's Restaurant at 17455 Biscayne Blvd. at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 10. The shooting has not been solved.
The lawsuit alleges that, on the night of the shooting, the restaurant had inadequate lighting and there was no security present.
"Houston's had absolutely no security guards whatsoever," attorney Andrew Haggard said.
Lawyers for Timpf's family said the owner should have known better since, according to the lawsuit, there had been 189 criminal incidents at and near the restaurant in the four years prior to the shooting.
North Miami Beach police said they are still convinced that the motive for the shooting was a carjacking attempt. Police said most of Timpf's personal property was still on him and it appeared that the bullets were fired as he tried to drive away.
Initially, witnesses said that they thought it was a case of parking lot rage. Witnesses initially said that a driver pulled out a gun and opened fire on Timpf when he tried to park in the same spot, but police later said it was uncertain if there had been a parking lot dispute.
Police then said they thought the motive for the shooting might have been jealousy after they confirmed that Timpf had dinner with a woman there the night the shooting occurred. Later, after interviewing the woman, they said they no longer believed that jealousy was a factor in Timpf's death.
Timpf, 32, was a chiropractor who worked in Coral Springs. He held a bachelor's degree in microbiology and immunology, as well as a master's degree in sports medicine, from the University of Miami. The 6-foot 10-inch Timpf was also a member of the basketball team.
In January, police said they had requested the assistance of the FBI in solving the crime.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $30,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
