3 Killed, 4 Injured In Head-On Crash In S.W. Florida

POSTED: Monday, May 7, 2007

A woman and two children were killed and four others were injured Saturday when a sport utility vehicle barreled head-on into a car south of Fort Myers, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the accident happened about 1 p.m. when the SUV attempted to make a pass in a left turn lane on Corkscrew Road, then lost control and crashed head-on into a car.

Maria Hernandez, 37, and Bryan Hernandez, 9, both of Immokalee and occupants of the SUV, were killed, as was a passenger in the car, Maejean Cummings, 12, also of Immokalee.

Four others were injured in the wreck, two in serious condition and two in critical condition.

Troopers said they were unsure why the SUV lost control.
