Man Was Working On Lawn When Lightning Hits Tree

PINECREST, Fla. -- A lawn worker is dead after allegedly being struck by lightning Thursday.Miami-Dade police said David Canales was standing next to a tree at 15000 S.W. 62nd Ave. when lightning struck the tree and then struck him.The 44-year-old man was hit while working on the front lawn of a home in the affluent suburb of Pinecrest about 1 p.m., said Lt. Elkin Sierra, a spokesman for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.Canales was hit by "dry" lightning, which means it was not raining at the time the lightning struck.Canales was taken to South Miami Hospital where he died.
