MIAMI -- He is one of a small group of Westerners to receive the final seal of approval as Zen Master, known as Inka.
That was back in 1996, and a decade later, Genpo Roshi is showing why he was given the rare distinction, typically given to more traditional eastern practitioners.
Through his more than 30 years of training in Zen and other Eastern traditions, Roshi has developed his own modernized program, merging Eastern and Western approaches to the mind in a way in which Westerners can relate to in their everyday lives. Roshi has termed this model "Big Mind/Big Heart: Finding your way."
"Big Mind, Big Heart opens the whole sea of the mind, and shows readers how to break through self-limiting concepts," said Roshi, who held a one-day workshop attended by more than 100 people in Miami Breach.
The Sunday afternoon workshop was held at the Colony Theater on Lincoln Road, which had Roshi positioned on stage solo, addressing and answering questions from the packed audience sitting.
Roshi taught the group the basic concept surrounding his Big Mind, Big Heart program, which Roshi said has the ability to "awaken and enlighten" ones self in a matter of a day, which took him nearly three decades to accomplish under the traditional Eastern Zen philosophy.
"The Big Mind, Big Heart awareness is a very confirming and profoundly felt state that all people have access to but may not be aware of until they make a shift," said Roshi.
The Zen Master delves deep into this philosophy in his fifth book titled, "Big Mind, Big Heart: Finding Your Way," which goes on sale in September.
But you don’t have to wait for the book to see how Roshi "awakens" his clients.

Roshi and Stand Spa life coach Dr. Cindy Lou Golin also provide insight to dealing with and understanding the powerful awakening that is the "Big Mind, Big Heart."
