FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent is out of jail after being charged with cocaine possession and resisting arrest with violence Thursday.
Fort Lauderdale police arrested Willie Cooper, 53, of Plantation, after undercover officers said they observed a white Mitsubishi, with no brake lights, disregard a stop sign in the area of Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest 12th Avenue.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver. Police said Cooper then reached toward the passenger seat and that's when an officer spotted a knife and narcotics contraband. After a struggle, officers placed Cooper under arrest and charged him.
A search of the vehicle revealed a crack pipe inside of the vehicle. Officers said it was "warm to the touch with smoke emanating from the pipe." The pipe tested positive for the presence of cocaine. They also located a box-cutter.
Cooper was in full uniform; however, he was off-duty. Border Patrol's standard weapon is the Berretta pistol, but Copper did not have that weapon and was driving his own vehicle, police said.
