Mom Reports 1-Year-Old Missing After A Month

Woman Says Baby Given To Acquaintance

POSTED: Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Lauderhill police are hoping someone may know the whereabouts of 1-year-old Tyvon Jeremiah Rivera Hawkins, whose mother said she gave the baby to an acquaintance but hasn't seen him in a month.

Tyvon had been missing for over a month before his mother, Tracy Hawkins, reported the missing child to police. According to her boyfriend, Patrick Jones, the boy's disappearance is keeping her awake at night.

According to Tracy Hawkins in her statement to Lauderhill police, she handed the boy over to an acquaintance at the bus depot in the parking lot of the Lauderhill Mall. She told police that she needed a few days of relief from childcare and gave Tyvon to a friend to watch for the weekend.

Several weeks later, she said she ran into the friend and asked about her baby, saying she wanted him back. That's when, Hawkins said, the friend claimed to have handed the baby over to the state.

Hawkins' boyfriend told Local 10 they were suspicious because there was neither paperwork nor contact information to lead them to the missing boy.

On Tuesday, Tracy Hawkins reported the missing baby to Lauderhill police. She had allegedly handed her son over to the caretaker on Sept. 28.

On Wednesday, Lauderhill police located and interviewed the woman who Tracy Hawkins said had been caring for her son. According to police, the woman denied ever being given the 1-year-old to care for. She said Hawkins' story was a lie. In addition, the state has no record of Tyvon Hawkins being handed over to their care.

Lauderhill police are now taking another look at the baby's mother.

"What she's alleging happened," said Lt. Rick Rocco, "quite frankly, our detectives aren't buying it. We're very concerned about where the child is right now."

As for Jones, he said, "She (the friend) had that baby. Know what I'm saying?"
