Vietnam Vet Shot, Killed Outside Sober House

BSO Searching For 3 Men Who Robbed, Shot Man In Parking Lot

POSTED: Monday, January 28, 2008

A 60-year-old Vietnam veteran was robbed and fatally shot early Saturday morning outside the residential substance and alcohol abuse recovery facility he co-owned.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the First Step Sober House, 450 SW Second St., in reference to several shots fired and found the wounded Richard Entriken outside the residence about 12:30 a.m. He was transported to North Broward Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

BSO homicide detectives said Entriken was preparing to leave the business when three men approached him in the parking lot, robbed him and shot him.

Witnesses said the three men, believed to be in their late 20s to early 30s, fled the scene in a dark blue or black compact, newer model -- possibly four-door -- foreign-made vehicle with dark-tinted windows.

BSO investigators didn't say how much money was taken, but said it was a substantial amount.

Entriken, a recipient of the Purple Heart medal, lived in Sunrise with his wife.

Anyone with information as to the identities or whereabouts of the three men is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
