Plea Deal On Hold In Toddler Killing

POSTED: Monday, March 10, 2008

A plea agreement is on hold for a 12-year-old Lauderhill boy accused of beating his toddler cousin to death.

Attorneys said two psychologists have concluded that the boy is not mature enough to understand key aspects of the legal system. That means he will continue to be held in juvenile custody pending another psychological evaluation in 60 days.

The boy has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder as a juvenile in the January beating death of 17-month-old Shaloh Joseph. If the plea deal goes through, the boy would probably be held in detention for less than two years and then put on probation.

The boy could face life in prison if he were charged as an adult.
