Police Union Wants Top City Officials Gone

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Fort Lauderdale police union issued a no-confidence vote against the city manager and assistant city manager Monday, saying they haven't properly addressed personnel issues that have been plaguing the police department.
"City manager George Gretsas and assistant city manager David Herbert are directly responsible for the near 300 percent increase in officers quitting the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and should be held accountable," said Jack Lokeinsky, president of Fort Lauderdale's Fraternal Order of Police. "I'm asking that the city commission terminate both managers and restore our police department to its once-premier status."
Fort Lauderdale officials said the rate of officers leaving the force is similar to other departments and that a no-confidence vote is a typical tactic used during contract negotiations. The police contract with the city expired in September.
