Police Say Men Grabbed Man's Pouch Of Diamonds

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Fort Lauderdale police said two men robbed a traveling diamond broker from New York of about $500,000 worth of jewelry Wednesday.The incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of East Sunrise Boulevard.Police said Robert Nissim, 34, of Great Neck, N.Y., arrived at Miami International Airport and rented a vehicle to travel store to store in the hopes of selling diamonds to local jewelry stores.Nissim arrived at the shopping plaza and parked his vehicle when a man smashed the driver's side window and grabbed Nissim, pulling at his jacket's inner pocket. Another man then smashed the passenger side window and grabbed Nissim, both men demanding him to "give it up." Nissim complied, handing over a pouch of diamonds he had on him.The duo then demanded the remaining jewelry in the trunk, and Nissim gave them a backpack filled with jewelry.Nissim was not seriously injured.Police said the men got away in a white, older model minivan, possibly a Ford Windstar or Dodge Caravan. Police said a third man acted as the getaway driver.Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
