HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- A 15-year-old boy suffered scrapes and bruises after falling out of the back of a pickup truck as it traveled on Interstate 95, north of the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
According to Sgt. Mark Wysocki, of the Florida Highway Patrol, the teenager was riding in the back of the pickup with a mattress that was tied down with straps. The straps broke and the mattress blew off, taking the boy with it, Wysocki said.
A witness told Local 10 that the boy tried to hold on to the mattress after the straps broke, but he tumbled into the road way. The witness stopped to avoid hitting the teen, but was rear-ended by another car.
The boy was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital.
The driver of the pickup was identified as the boyfriend of the teenager's mother. The unidentified man was ticketed for allowing a person younger than 18 years of age to ride in an open pickup on an interstate highway.
