Turtles Beware: Crack Addicts Could Pose Threat, Police Say

According to police, South Florida sea turtles now have another obstacle to survival -- crack addicts.

Authorities say poachers are paying crack addicts with cash or drugs to steal sea turtle eggs (pictured) for them.

Some people believe the eggs are an aphrodisiac, right up there with rhino horns and palmetto saw berries. Other people eat them as a delicacy.

Protection of the turtle eggs is not a high priority for state wildlife enforcement, but state officers say that's going to change.
