POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- A Pompano Beach man, apparently upset about homeowner's association dues, was shot by three members of the Broward Sheriff's Office SWAT team after he took two women hostage, according to the BSO.
Home video captured 57-year-old Patrick Dellisanti walking calmly out of the community office of his apartment complex at 2204 S. Cypress Bend Drive. He could be seen hugging one of the women and then walking down the sidewalk. He reached into the right front pocket of his pants, slowly pulling out what authorities said was a revolver.
One witness, who observed the scene with binoculars from his balcony, told Local 10's Janine Stanwood, "It looked like he had the gun to his head, like he was going to shoot himself."
Within moments, the video showed, SWAT members rushed close to Dellisanti and at least eight shots could be heard.
Dellisanti fell to the ground. Authorities dragged him away.
The incident apparently started when Dellisanti walked into the community office, upset over his elderly mother's homeowner's association dues. He lived with his mother.
The BSO said he was armed and held the two women inside hostage.
According to investigators, the two women told Dellisanti that they would go to the bank with him to draw out the money that he needed, and he agreed.
One of those women was able to secretly make a call to someone, asking them to call 911, the BSO said.
"At the very least, we know that he pulled his weapon, and that was sufficient for the SWAT team to respond, and he was shot and killed," BSO spokesman Jim Leljedal said.
After being shot by the SWAT team, Dellisanti was transported to North Broward Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
He had at least one previous brush with the law when he was arrested in 1996 and charged with driving under the influence and unlawful possession of Diazepan.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting. The three members of the BSO SWAT team will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome, which is standard procedure.
