Police: Missing Foster Children Found Safe

Sources Close To Case Say Older Sibling Wanted To Reunite With Biological Mother

Miami-Dade police said two foster children who apparently walked away from a day care facility have been found safe.

Cinnamon Diaz, 12, and Joshua Diaz, 7, disappeared from a church day care owned by Genuine Love Ministries in northwest Miami-Dade County early Sunday afternoon.

Sources close to the case believe the children did not want to live with a foster family anymore. Cinnamon had made past threats to reunite with her biological mother, whose parental rights have been terminated.

Cinnamon and Joshua were two of six children in a room with a supervisor at the day care, said the Rev. Charles Thompson, owner of the day care. The room has four doors. It's unclear how the two managed to walk out undetected.

The children's biological mother, Elaine Diaz, is a convicted felon currently serving probation. Her former neighbors describe bouts of domestic violence in the North Miami home where she lived with her husband.

It was not immediately clear where the children were found, but they are now in the custody of Miami-Dade police.
