First Biodiesel Gas Station Opens In Miami-Dade
85-Minute Promotion Offered E-85 Gas For 85 Cents Per Gallon

HIALEAH, Fla. -- The first biodiesel gas station in Miami-Dade County opened Thursday in Hialeah.
As a grand opening promotion, the UGas station at 7950 W. 28th Ave. was offering biodiesel and ethanol gas at a fraction of the cost.
E-85 gas was being sold for 85 cents for 85 minutes beginning at 10 a.m. By noon, the line for gas had wrapped around the station.
For Lazaro Gonzalez, who said he spends about $400 a month on gas, filling his gas tank for $11.56 was a welcome relief.
The Urbieta Oil Co. said it invested about $100,000 to make the gas station the first in the county to offer bio fuels E-10, E-85 and biodiesel. Owner Willie Urbieta said the promotion was meant to generate awareness to alternative fuels.
"Biofuels are here to stay, so it's to get educated and to know that you'll be saving some money," Urbieta said.
He said E-10 will cost about 5 cents less than regular gas, E-85 about 30 cents less and biodiesel about 20 cents less.
When the promotion was over, E-85 was being sold for $3.59 and biodiesel was being sold for $4.55.
To find out if a vehicle can run on biofuels, ask the vehicle's manufacturer or a mechanic.
