MARGATE, Fla. -- A 38-year-old teacher was arrested Friday, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student for more than a year.

Christine Jouini is charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. She is an 11th and 12th grade teacher at The Center Academy, a private school in Coral Springs.

According to police, detectives began an investigation after the student recently confided to another teacher he had a sexual relationship with Jouini when he was 16. That teacher notified the state's child abuse hot line in compliance with child abuse reporting guidelines.

Police said Jouini was involved with the student from August 2006 to September 2007. Police said the student had sex with Jouini on multiple occasions off campus and at her home in Margate.

During the investigation, detectives said they met with several witnesses who saw Jouini and the student together away from school and at Jouini's home.

A warrant was issued for Jouini's arrest. She turned herself in to the Margate Police Department without incident.
