FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Fort Lauderdale police are conducting a hate crime investigation after a woman returned home after a weekend away and found offensive symbols and words spray-painted up and down her walls.
Words like "white bread" and an image of a swastika were sprayed on the inside of the home she rents on the 2300 block of Northwest 26th Street in Fort Lauderdale.
Brandy Cochran told Local 10, "I'm pretty much the only white person in this neighborhood, so obviously it was directed towards me as a personal hit."
The criminals also spray-painted over pictures of Cochran's young daughters.
The cans of paint that were used were left at the scene and dusted for prints. Police said the criminals stole several things, mostly electronics.
Cochran had only recently moved to South Florida from the Midwest, but is no longer staying at her home.
She said, "People are hateful and mean for no reason. I didn't do anything to anybody, I don't even know anybody."
