Driver Survives Van Explosion In Hialeah

HIALEAH, Fla. -- A man was burned Thursday morning when the van he was driving to work exploded.
The incident happened on East 4th Avenue between 13th and 14th Street in Hialeah. A surveillance camera at a nearby store captured the explosion on videotape.
According to police, the van was filled with gas tanks and welding equipment. The man reportedly lit a cigarette, igniting gas fumes in the vehicle and setting off the explosion.
One witness said he thought it was a terrorist attack.
The van blew apart, scattering pieces of the vehicle along the street.
The driver was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but suffered only minor injuries.
