MIAMI -- Miami-Dade homicide detectives continued to look for clues at a southwest Miami-Dade home where a 21-year-old man was found dead on Saturday.
The area around 8001 Southwest 62nd Place in Miami was closed as detectives searched for answers in what they are now calling a homicide investigation.
The victim was identified as Edwards Pieron, a biology student at the University of Miami. He is from Woodland Hills, Calif.
Investigators said a friend found his body inside the house.
"It was such a massive amount of blood," Ricardo Silva said. "The image of that is going to stick with me for a while."
The crime scene will be forever burned in Silva's memory.
"As I walked into the house, I looked to my left and saw the young man on the floor in a rather large pool of blood -- blood on the couch, blood on the floor. It was tough to look at," Silva said.
On Monday, a bouquet of flowers stuffed in the door handle and a note saying "It wasn't your time" were placed at the front entryway of the apartment where Pieron was found.
"I feel pretty bad for the family," said Justin Woodward. Woodward, one of Pieron's next door neighbors, told Local 10 that UM students who live in the home had a party celebrating Independence Day. The Fourth of July was also Pieron's 21st birthday.
"They were shooting fireworks in the street and in the back and having a good time. It was the Fourth of July so it was to be expected," Woodward told Local 10's Todd Tongen.
Although campus life is slow because of summer break, students at the University of Miami had mixed reactions.
"Oh my gosh, that scares me because I live right here," said one student.
"Unfortunately it's something you kind of come to expect living in Miami for a while," said another. "It's sad all the same. It's the kind of thing you wish didn't happen, but it's a big city and it's bound to be dangerous."
Police spent most of the weekend looking for clues. So far, they have not said how or when Pieron died.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
