Eleanor Adderley, 45, was arrested at the family's Plantation home after confronting her husband in the couple's master bedroom with a 9mm Beretta handgun, according to a police report. The chief, described in the police report as the victim, was not injured.

Mrs. Adderley "without provocation suddenly pointed and discharged a handgun impacting the bed inches from where the victim was lying," according to the Plantation Police arrest report. "Victim then fled the bedroom, exiting the residence through a rear porch area, while the defendant discharged a second round. Victim continued to flee toward a neighbor's residence, where the defendant discharged additional rounds."

Eleanor Adderley, 45, was charged with one count of firing a missile into a dwelling and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent.

Around 9:30 Wednesday night, Eleanor Adderley was released from jail after her husband paid her $25,000 bond. He also agreed to move out of their house. The court ordered that Eleanor Adderley stay a mile away from her husband and she must also wear an electronic monitoring device.

Adderley's attorney Robert C. Buschel, Partner with Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler said, “This is a private family matter for the Adderleys and we intend to do everything in our power to protect the family at this most difficult time.”

Buschel said the Adderleys will handle the matter as a family and will attend counseling sessions. He also said they will meet with the state attorney in the next 30 days to discuss the matter. Even though Chief Adderley said he does not want the case to go to trial, they must decide how to handle the charges his wife faces.

Chief Adderley was named as Fort Lauderdale's police chief last month following the resignation of former Police Chief Bruce Roberts .

After the incident he released the following statement:

"Despite this trying time, I support and stand by my wife. I love her very much. I will do everything possible to get her whatever assistance she needs during this difficult time."

Fort Lauderdale police also released a statement supporting the chief:

"Police Chief Frank Adderley contacted the Plantation Police Department regarding a domestic incident at his home. Chief Adderly is cooperating fully with the Plantation Police Department. The members of the Fort Lauderdale Police department support their chief during this difficult time."

The chief has cancelled all events this week, police said.
