HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- A Hollywood police officer who starred in a hit television series was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a fact-finding internal affairs investigation, Hollywood police said Thursday.

Officer Michael Verdugo, also known as Mikey V. to fans of HGTV's "Design Star," was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday evening after several Internet blogs earlier this week posted clips from a 1996 gay bondage film whose lead actor, according to bloggers, looks just like Verdugo.

Local 10 tried contacting the officer at his home, but he offered no comment.

"My client has done nothing wrong," Verdugo's attorney, Al Milian, said in a statement Thursday. "He has served the community of Hollywood with honor and distinction for over 10 years. The only reason someone would criticize my client is that he publicly has a different lifestyle."

Local 10 asked the Hollywood Police Department if being in a sex tape was a violation of police policy, but the department would not comment.

Police said no comments are expected to be made until the investigation is complete.
