Therapist Accused Of Falsifying Medicaid Claims

Authorities Say Woman Submitted Claims For Therapy She Never Provided

POSTED: Thursday, July 17, 2008

A Broward County therapist was arrested Thursday after she falsified about $14,000 in claims to the Florida Medicaid program, the attorney general's office said.

Jill Cohen, 34, is charged with one count of grand theft, a third-degree felony.

Acting on information received from the mother of a Medicaid recipient, the attorney general's medical fraud control unit began investigating Cohen for her billing practices as an occupational therapist.

Authorities said Cohen submitted numerous claims to the Medicaid program to be reimbursed for occupational therapy she never provided to various children who were Medicaid recipients.

Cohen was being held at a Broward County jail. She faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
