Woman Gets Ticket For Traffic Violation She Didn't Commit
Red-Light Camera Violation Came From Atlanta, Where She Hasn't Been In Decades

AVENTURA, Fla. -- If you get a ticket in the mail because of a red-light camera, be sure to take a hard look at the details.
"This has caused me a great deal of trouble," said Evelyn Singer, a widow, great grandmother and longtime resident of Hollywood.
But Singer said she doesn't take road trips. That's why she was surprised to find a red-light camera violation in the mail from the state of Georgia.
Her name was on the ticket and so was her vehicle information, but when Singer took a closer look at the picture of the car in question, it didn't look anything like hers. The picture showed a black Pontiac with a license plate ending in 'M.' Her car is a white Acura with a license plate ending in 'W.'
Local 10's Sasha Andrade listened in as Singer called the Atlanta courthouse that sent her the notice.
"I'm not going to pay it and I'll tell you why," said Singer. "You received a certified letter from me explaining that was not my automobile. I have not been in Atlanta for over 35 years."
Singer demanded answers and was put on hold. Andrade did the same and was also put on hold.
After multiple transfers, disconnections and voice mails, there was finally a voice at the other end of the line.
Singer immediately wanted to know how often these types of mistakes happen.
"It doesn't really matter as far as what we're trying to accomplish," said the woman on the other end of the line.
The Atlanta court system said it would take some time to review all of the information, but expect to clear Singer of any wrongdoing.
Singer feels lucky that her persistence paid off, but she's afraid this kind of error would have had other elderly people driving in circles. She warns all South Floridians to take a good look at any red-light camera tickets before paying the fine.
