A group of South Florida students have developed their second solar-powered car, and this one is a winner.

Students from South Plantation High School ranked third in the nation in this year's Dell-Winston Solar Car Challenge.

The Solar Knight II features solar panels and a touch-screen laptop.

The students received a $10,000 grant and raised another $60,000 to build the car.

It can top 50 miles an hour. There is no limit as to how far it can go because it runs completely on the sun.

The car is also 200 pounds lighter than their first model, the Solar Knight I.

The Solar Knight I was one of only nine solar cars to finish a cross country race from Texas to New York last summer.

Students said what they learned last year helped them make the Solar Knight II faster and more aerodynamic.
