HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Hollywood police are trying to identify two persons of interest in the fatal shooting of a Friendly Checker taxi cab driver Friday morning.
Police said the cab driver's body was found shortly before 5 a.m.
"I saw the cab driver bleeding from his head and I called 911," said Paul Delisle, who first discovered the crime.
Delisle said he heard three gunshots outside his apartment at about 4:50 a.m. and walked out to find the 62-year old driver dead on the ground. Delisle said he saw two men running from the scene.
Co-workers told Local10 that the victim, whose name isn't being released until next of kin are notified, was robbed for just $50 in cash.
Police said the persons of interest were seen on surveillance video entering a Midway Food Store where the victim picked up two men shortly before he was killed.
Friday's killing marks the fourth in South Florida since March 1, when a cab driver was fatally shot in Miami Springs. Another cab driver was shot and killed in North Miami on June 21. Last week, a cab driver was fatally gunned down in northwest Miami-Dade County.
The motive in each shooting is robbery, which has a friend and co-worker of Friday's victim wondering if the job is worth the risk.
"I'm ready to just give up the cab back to the company and find something different because it's not worth it," said Bello Mourala, another Friendly Checker driver.
