Police Webmaster Fired For Porn At Work
Internal Affairs Document Claims Man Accessed, Viewed Porn On Work Computer
POSTED: Friday, August 8, 2008
MIAMI -- The webmaster for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department has been fired for watching pornographic Web sites while at work, according to an internal affairs document obtained by Local 10 on Friday.
Steven Loiacono was suspended without pay for 20 days beginning July 14 and was notified he would be dismissed effective Aug. 11.
Police said Loiacono violated the following city policy: "Sexually explicit software resident on the city's computer system or accessed via city-owned computer hardware is not appropriate and will result in disciplinary action."
According to the internal affairs document, Loiacono accessed and viewed sexually explicit material from his work computer between July 2007 and April 2008.
In his statement to internal affairs, Loiacono claimed that the majority of the sexual material was inadvertent Internet pop-ups that appeared while performing work-related duties, but other witness testimony and evidence contradicted his statement.
Police said Loiacono admitted to visiting sexually explicit Internet sites on at least one occasion for non-work-related reasons. Although it was determined Loiacono violated city policy, he did not break the law and is not expected to face criminal charges.
