Gloria Estefan To Perform Charity Concert

Concert Will Be Grammy Winner's First Performance In 4 Years

POSTED: Monday, August 11, 2008

Cuban-American singer and songwriter Gloria Estefan announced her plans to perform a charity concert at the Hollywood Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Monday during the unveiling of two pieces of memorabilia from her career.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning artist will perform her greatest hits during an Oct. 24 concert -- her first public performance in four years. The concert will benefit education funds in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Indian River counties.

"I thought it was a great opportunity to beef up the charitable effort and, since I'm not going to repeat what I did last year in my own home, I figure what better way," Estefan said. "My fans are constantly telling me, 'When are you going to do a show? When are you going to do a show?' And even though I don't tour anymore in the states, I have concentrated in doing a lot of … charitable concerts, so this, to me, is very special."

Estefan began her career as a member of the Miami Sound Machine in the 1980s and later became a successful solo singer. Her husband and producer, Emilio Estefan, was with her for Monday's announcement.

The couple also unveiled two outfits from Estefan's concerts that will be on display at the Hard Rock.

"It's great to have one in our own hometown and to be a part of it," Estefan said. "To have this kind of exhibit here, it's a big honor for us. It really makes me very happy. I look at these things and I think back … where these outfits came from."

Tickets for her concert go on sale beginning Friday at noon.
