FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Broward County Commission is set to hold Tuesday what is expected to be a very heated debate.
Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion Jr. is proposing a county ordinance that will require retail businesses to provide, operate and maintain a security camera video surveillance system to protect customers walking to and from the parking lot.
The proposed ordinance would require the system to operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
In addition to the security camera system, the ordinance would require adequate lighting in the entire parking area of the business.
Many business owners said it places an unfair and costly burden on them, and some are concerned about privacy rights.
A public hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Broward County Governmental Center in Fort Lauderdale.
