MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- Miami-Dade fire-rescue crews rescued two horses stuck in a ditch in southwest Miami-Dade County on Friday.
The horses were stuck in an 8-foot deep ditch about 4-feet wide near Southwest 168th Street and Southwest 199th Avenue. Both were tangled in weeds that rose to their necks.
Fire-rescue crews rescued the horses one at a time. They tranquilized the first horse, strapped a harness on the horse and used a front-end loader to pull the animal out of the ditch.
Just when crews thought their work was done, someone spotted a second horse stuck in the same ditch a few feet away.
The weeds were tangled around the horse's body, making it difficult for crews to see her. Again, rescuers used a front-end loader to pull her out.
Neither horse was injured, but it took crews almost an hour to get the second horse standing on all four legs.
